I don't game, but even I'd heard that Bioware had done a nice job of making DragonAge 2 inclusive by including both gay and straight romances in the options. And of course some people were going to take exception to this. When one player decided to take a stand for that maltreated and underappreciated demographic, the Straight Male Gamer, claiming

There are some very lolworthy comment threads about this news, pointing out just how neglected and underserved the straight male gamer demographic is when looking for gaming alternatives.

I've played most of Bioware's games and I have to say they don't try to cater to just one type of person, they do try to include everyone. All of the ones I've played that have had the romance options have had at least one male and one female character that can be considered either bi or gay. It's kind of refreshing.

As a very long time gamer I've gone through many, many, many years of having to play as a straight male main character. Over the last several years I've finally gotten to play as a female main character.

I actually have this game and I haven't gotten to the romance aspect of it. Their big sci fi series, "Mass Effect" has a romance option that you can carry over from game one to game two and I'm guessing to game 3. I was a bit peeved that the one I romanced in game one wasn't even available as a playable character in game 2 though. So it meant no romance for me for the entire game. I'm hoping they fix that in game three, even though the woman was blue skinned, she was still rather nice.

"Mass Effect" actually caught some flack for the sex scene between the blue alien and the female/male lead Shepherd character. Although it's rather tame compared to some of the stuff they show on network tv. It made national news: The caption on the video clip's very misleading, there's no "full nudity", it's tame. You can find clips of both male and female versions on youtube.

I think people should just play the game and then complain about it later. I like some of the game and dislike other parts of it. No video game is perfect and there's no way for one to cater to every single taste. I haven't really seen any stereotypical anything, not that I really pay attention. I play games to have fun. I could nit pick over the heavy reuse of the same dungeons and areas. I could complain that there's only one town and the game is basically a bunch of quests all joined together by an okay plot line. I could complain that the sex scenes are a bit bland and sometimes rather silly. But I won't. I'm just going to keep playing until I finish it.
