I don't game, but even I'd heard that Bioware had done a nice job of making DragonAge 2 inclusive by including both gay and straight romances in the options. And of course some people were going to take exception to this. When
one player decided to take a stand for that maltreated and underappreciated demographic, the Straight Male Gamer, claiming
there should have been much more focus in on making sure us male gamers were happy
In every previous BioWare game, I always felt that almost every companion in the game was designed for the male gamer in mind.
One of the games creators was quick to point out that actually he is not the centre of the universe:
The romances in the game are not for "the straight male gamer". They're for everyone. We have a lot of fans, many of whom are neither straight nor male, and they deserve no less attention.
I do love the mindset. Having simulated sex with a computer elf, no problem; bloodthirstily slaughtering computer creatures and people, fine; having a computer man come on to you? Now that's a bridge too far. Humans are strange.
There are some very lolworthy comment threads about this news, pointing out just how neglected and underserved the straight male gamer demographic is when looking for gaming alternatives.
